Description |
Ink on aluminum composite, depiction of milky white clouds on a silver aluminum backdrop. The etching technique used results in a shifting effect when viewed; as the viewer's perspective changes, the colors appear to shift, changing from silver to gold to red to gray. As the angle of light shifts, the elements appear to sink away from each other. |

Notes |
Miya Ando, drawing from her Japanese and Russian heritage, combines metals, reflectivity, and light to create unique metal canvases and sculptures, emphasizing "purity, simplicity and refinement". Her interest in working with metal stems from her family ties to Japanese swordsmithing. The Kumo (Cloud) series was created by using a laser to etch metal and glass. This produces an effect which, when the viewer's perspective shifts, results in the appearance of changing colors and light angles. This series depicts moments of transience in nature captured as a beautiful still frame. |
